Vintage patterns are one of my favorites. Again, I decided to dabble into making a vintage-style dress for myself.<\/p>\n

This time I got inspired by the Butterick 6796, a vintage style dress that is a bit more unique. It has a darted bodice with a gathered rectangular skirt. I love how charming it is with an adjustable neckline that I am very comfortable with. The sleeves are just long enough to cover the upper arm and that makes it just perfect for what I had in mind.<\/p>\n

After considering several options, I decided to use a Japanese cotton lawn with a pattern of little houses on it that made the whole fabric look simply charming. I\u2019ll admit it was a bit expensive when I bought it from a shop I visited in Denver but I knew it would work perfectly because of the way the pattern was cut at the bias.<\/p>\n

The next thing I need to do was pick the right muslin. Initially, I had issues with the bust dart being too pointy, but I eventually resolved this by underlining the bodice with cotton or silk blend fabric used my hands to do the stitching rather than the machine.<\/p>\n

Although the process was a bit slower, it still gave me a satisfying feeling to have made this dress by hand<\/a>. I like a 50s housewife when I wear it, but I love it. The dress is perfect for something of a semi-casual occasion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
